About value-driven care (innovation)

A transition in healthcare is necessary to ensure that everyone can receive the care they need. The goal is to maintain good, accessible, and affordable care for the future. We capture this under the term “appropriate care.”

One of the basic principles of appropriate care is that it is “value-driven.” To achieve this, care must be demonstrably effective, making optimal use of people, resources, and materials. But how do you determine what works and what doesn’t? How can you measure whether something is effective? Effectiveness studies reveal which care offers more value to the patient and which is no longer applicable. This knowledge is crucial, especially considering rising healthcare spending and the impending scarcity in the labor market. Additionally, the demand for care is becoming increasingly complex, and various new medical technologies are emerging (source: ZonMw).
