Enschede Energie and Pontus Heattreatment are starting a pilot for the direct supply of electricity. From now on, the Enschede-based sustainable energy cooperative will supply electricity directly to the heat treatment specialist Pontus, located at Kennispark. Nationwide, this is the first time a local energy producer has applied the so-called Self-supply Model+ in this way.

Pontus uses a lot of energy in production and therefore needs affordable but also sustainable electricity. “Enschede Energie is a partner who wanted to work with us to find the best way to meet our energy needs as sustainably as possible. We find it very important to have as small a footprint as possible.” said Pontus director Geert Wubben.
It’s a win-win situation. Pontus provides part of its energy needs in a sustainable and cheaper way and Enschede Energie can sell the power generated by its solar plants locally for a better fee. This is because a link has been taken out of the process. There is no energy company involved that incurs costs and thus charges a higher electricity rate.
