Discover the possibilities and challenges of energy storage. Learn about the different storage technologies and how to choose the right one for your situation.

What will you be able to do afterwards?

After completing this course, you will be familiar with the different types of energy storage and their applications. You will be able to recognise the most important characteristics of energy storage technologies and make considerations for a specific type and size of storage.

You will also learn how to calculate the costs of energy storage and gain a basic understanding of the energy market. These skills and knowledge will enable you to make informed decisions about energy storage. This will enable you to contribute to a more sustainable energy system.

Content

The Energy Storage course offers a comprehensive exploration of the possibilities and challenges of energy storage. The course covers the reasons why energy storage is important and discusses the technical and financial side. Legislation and regulations are also covered. In the course you will be given various exercises that will help you apply the theory and make it your own.

Programme

The first day will cover the theory of why energy storage is necessary and what different types of energy storage systems there are. This will be interspersed with short exercises.

The different storage systems will be explained based on their most important characteristics and financial aspects.

The second day will focus on electrical technology. We will discuss the different types of batteries and how they work. There is an assignment in which you use an Excel model to determine a suitable battery size for a specific home. You will look at your own consumption of generated electricity, the degree of self-sufficiency and the payback time of solar panels and batteries. You will present the results of this assignment to the other participants.

The third day focuses on thermal storage, where you will learn about the applications and advantages of this technology.

On the fourth day, an excursion is planned where you will see practical examples of energy storage and have the opportunity to ask questions of experts in the field.

Conclusion

After participating, you will receive a certificate of participation.

Practical information

The course will start if there are enough registrations and will consist of four half-days, from 13.00 to 18.00.

In addition to these contact moments, we expect that you will need about 20 hours for self-study to master the theory. This of course depends on your own learning needs. This means the total time investment for participation in the course is 40 clock hours.
