Smart IT

A digital transformation is necessary to make society future-proof, but how do you make sure people harness the power of technology?

Smart IT

Digitalization is accelerating, technology is developing at an emergency pace, and the amount of available data is increasing by the day. Does this only bring opportunities or does this development also bring risks? We must be ready to deal with negative consequences, but not look to the future with fear and trembling.

Artificial Intelligence and big data in healthcare

In recent years, healthcare, business and ICT have come closer and closer together. More and more collaboration opportunities are emerging with Saxion, the Dutch AI Coalition, Oost NL, a health insurer and forty healthcare organizations, among others, to use artificial intelligence to take healthcare to the next level. Big data can be used, for example, to optimize the advice of the occupational physiotherapist and thus minimize downtime among care employees. Many decisions in healthcare are now made based on the expertise and affinity of the professional. We see a lot of variation in this: one professional advises mindfulness, for example, and another says to raise your desk slightly. We are not sure how to properly advise individual cases based on the available evidence. Artificial intelligence and big data can help with that.

The healthcare and wellness sector cannot do without future-proof healthcare professionals. Professionals who have knowledge and skills in the field of care and welfare and are also able to use technology and innovations in a sustainable way. This will lead to better care, personalized care and ease the work of professionals.

Real-life challenges in education

Our 21st century is challenged-based. At Kennispark, therefore, more and more real-life challenges are being integrated into education. For example, at the University of Twente with events such as Create Tomorrow, Curious-U Summerschool and creative hackatons. During these events, students work in multidisciplinary teams on a current issue. This produces innovative solutions and surprising insights. At the same time, it prepares students for their future in society. It is precisely the economic and social relevance that makes projects so interesting for students. With Novel-T’s High Tech Knowledge Transfer project, students and researchers, among others, brought knowledge of Smart Industry and Medical Technology to companies in the East Netherlands. Entrepreneurs were not only looking for current knowledge, but also help in deploying this knowledge. Student teams spent four months working on such an issue. For companies a way to innovate faster and implement new technology.
